News
I have decided to resume some limited development on Chameleon.
It seems i have some extra time when i'm compiling mozilla, so why not put that time to good use.
Please note that any of this very limited development Will not yeild a useable version of chameleon anytime soon. So in other words, don't bother installing the nightly build because it doesn't do anything yet.

Chameleon will not work w/ Netscape 6.1, the last release was for 6.01.

Thanks

Will Chameleon development start back up once Mozilla gets to 1.0?

Or is development halted as in Pete doesn't have time anymore for Chameleon?

Thanks bunches.

I would like to start just prior to 1.0 *if* (you guessed), I have the time. Currently i've been focusing on mozilla nsIFile work for the upcoming API freeze in addition to much needed jslib work which chameleon and many other packages rely on.

This tool has so much potential and can be a real win for mozilla and Netscape to have around for developers and designers.

But unfortunately right now i can't guarantee any start dates for another cycle of development.

hi, will chameleon work on mozilla 0.91? if the answer is yes, what version do you recommend me? is there installation program? or should i compile the source code? i work over windows platform. thanks.

best wishes diego park

No, 0.6 is the last mozilla milestone chameleon will run against.

This should be someone's post 1.0 project. With the APIs frozen, building Mozilla/Netscape themes will be popular - and a lot more so with this most excellent tool working properly.

Agree, i know i am not going to be able anytime in the near future. :-(

I'd be happy to help out someone who may want to start this project up again.

Thanks

I want to know if there will be a release of Chamaleon for Mozilla 1.0

[10] Submitted by: pete collins on Sunday May 12th 2002

I don't know. It doesn't look good. I have many things I need to accomplish and free time is very sparse.

Yay for Chamaleon - but, please PLEASE, release a compatible version w/moz 1 ns7.

I don't have any coding exp. but can do graphic design, - for the time being do you know of any other tools that work to create themes (also looked at thinskin, but doesn't work at the mo.)

Thanks a bunch

[12] Submitted by: [BISI] on Tuesday September 3rd 2002

Please make it (at least) Mozilla 1.0 compatible!

[13] Submitted by: :-) on Tuesday September 3rd 2002

Yeah!

not sure why this is listed in the active projects category. The project is clearly dead.

I think the mozdev team need to do a serious clean out and get rid of all the dead projects (sadly like this one)

It's a shame though, as it was really promising

[15] Submitted by: pete collins on Wednesday September 4th 2002

Yea, it is a shame, i can't make any time for this project at all.

I guess I need to let go.

what sort of time commitment would it require to make this compatible with moz 1.0 or 1.1? please move the project off the 'current' list asap; even if development resumes I imagine it will be a month before it is 'current' again? also, if development resumes, do you need non-programming help with the project, and if you do what help are you looking for?

[17] Submitted by: pete collins on Sunday September 8th 2002

You are looking at about 4 solid weeks (maybe)of dev time to get the app to the point of where it once was.

This is a comittment i just can't make. This project will need either sponsorship or someone w/ a lot of free time on their hands.

does this work with netscape 6.2

[19] Submitted by: jasonx on Wednesday December 11th 2002

when I launch this a launch splash screen comes up that says chamelion is going through a rewrie for mozilla 1.0. I am using the nightly build of chamelion

[20] Submitted by: Pete Collins on Wednesday December 11th 2002

Nope sorry, Mozilla 0.6 or Netscape 6/6.01

This is the working version.

Any progress so far?

[22] Submitted by: Pete Collins on Thursday December 12th 2002

The app is out of date and needs some major development to work w/ a mozilla 1.X codebase.

The problem as I stated before in this thread is time. I just don't have the free time to work on this project anymore.

Thanks

does this work with netscape 7?

[30] Submitted by: pete collins on Saturday May 17th 2003

No. It worked w/ Netscape 6.01.

This project is on moth balls. My focus now is on jslib, xptk and demiurge Mozdev projects.

Hi! I really liked yor site - congratulations, it really made me think, and now my life is complete!

Oh - and that pop up window? Hmmm.. Lets see, I am here to spam all of the mozdev sites, and *now* your going to appeal to my conscience? (sp?) Tell you what, I'll post my spammy link, and then go and contemplate my actions while Google spiders your pages and gets my spammy site up in the serps!
